Small Mammals:
- Phone NEAS on 085 8465464
- Approach animal quietly, gently, carefully and restrain
- Be careful! (wear gloves)
• Rodents can bite, grasp by the base of the tail
• Rabbits can give nasty scratches, cover the head with material and support spine with both hands. Never hold by ears!
• Hamsters can bite. Scruff the entire fur on their back to avoid bites
- Keep warm in an escape proof container with airholes until NEAS arrive

Reptiles:

- Approach reptile quietly, gently, carefully and restrain
- Be careful! (wear gloves)
• Turtles/tortoise can bite, hold like a hamburger. Do not turn upside down!
• Lizards can give nasty scratches, cover the head with material and support body with both hands. Never grab by tail!
• Only handle non-venomous snakes. Transport in a pillowcase. They bruise easily, so handle gently!

- Wearing gloves, lift bird using both hands, avoid pressure to chest area
- Place bird in an escape proof container with airholes
- Keep container covered and warm and in a dark place until NEAS arrive

- Keep animal calm, comfortable and warm
- Obvious fracures should be splinted prior to moving
- If spinal trauma is suspected, transport on a flat board
- If animal is unconscious, place on its side
- Stem obvious bleeding by applying pressure with clean material
